Never get on your country club board
The club is supposed to be your escape. The place you go to relax and enjoy yourself. Get on the board and some member is always in your ear with an opinion or a complaint, and there goes your escape.

Never get on your church board
Faith brings out strong opinions in good people. Put a board together around those opinions and you've traded your peace of mind for a headache.

Never get on your condo association board
Sooner or later, someone's garbage disposal breaks at 11pm. Guess who's getting that call.

Never buy your neighborhood bar
Everybody's got a story about the guy who bought a bar and made a fortune. Unless you're actually going to be the owner behind that bar every night, you'll lose your shirt and your own employees will help themselves to the register.

No last names in public
You never know who's sitting at the table behind you.

Never end a golf round with a press in your pocket
If you're down, press. Every time.
Pet Peeves
Left lane campers
The sign says "slower traffic keep right," not "slow traffic keep right." That's not a suggestion, it's relative. If someone's coming up behind you faster than you're going, you're the slower traffic. Move right. You're welcome to move back over once they pass. It's not up to your discretion.
Free advertising for the dealership
You spend tens of thousands of dollars, sometimes way more, on a car, and the dealership sends you home with a sticker or a plastic license plate frame advertising their name. Can you imagine if every home with a UHP warranty let me walk over and slap a sticker on the front door? My apologies to my friends in the auto business, but if you want ad space on my car, there's a monthly fee for that.
